Calabash Seed Feeder

R 280.00

The calabash is a gourd that originated in Africa, and was subsequently transported to all inhabited continents. It is essentially as old as mankind itself, and archaeological digs have discovered calabashes of 8000 years ago. Calabashes have been used as a food source, as well as for storage containers and even musical instruments throughout this period.

Elaine's Birding have produced bird feeders using natural calabashes in previous years, but removed these products due to uncertainty of supply. Now we are pleased to announce the provision of a terracotta (hand made) calabash seed feeder that is as beautiful as it is practical! The feeders feature a 100% design and manufacture and decoration by South African craftsmen. Every feeder reflects the essence of Africa, and should find a home in all discerning African gardens.

The calabash seed feeder measures a typical 22cm in height and with a diameter of 21cm. It makes a statement.

Use it to attract the birds to your garden, or use it simply for the aesthetic effect. We have no doubt that you will love the calabash seed feeder!
