Bat Roost No 1

Bats are critical to the ecology of gardens, forests and farm lands. Many species are pollinated by bats, and indeed some are only pollinated by bats. Furthermore, bats constitute the best natural control mechanism for many garden insects, including some such as mosquitoes that are widely regarded as pests. Whereas Nature's Heart encourages all home owners to enjoy the birds in their gardens and primarily supply bird products, we are also very cognisant of the importance of bats in our urban environment and equally support growth in their populations.

Considering how critical they are to a stable ecology, we at Nature's Heart are very proud to offer a bat roost for on-line purchase. Bearing in mind that in South Africa we have 20 species of insectivorous bats that are threatened, (and 22 threatened species out of 56 species total if we include fruit bats), it is quite obvious that the bats need our support.

The bat roost may also serve as an important educational tool for your school-age children.

Elaine's Birding have supplied bat houses in previous years for exclusive sale by certain retailers and are very experienced in this field. We are now able to offer a small garden bat house to our customers that particularly services the Cape Serotine bat, but may service a variety of different insect bats to compliment the creatures that already exist at your property.
